Chapter 24

Proverbs 24 (Kent)

"If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?" Proverbs 24:11-12 KJV

The unsaved are drawn unto death, ready to be slain. We know it. The work is set forth in Matthew 28:19-20, The Great Commission; "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

Does God expect us all to do as Peter or Paul or Billy Graham? Only if so called, I think. Rather, He would have us be ready, sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit to "preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." 2 Timothy 4:2

Perhaps this Proverb would make a great addition to the refrigerator magnet collection or warrant a place on our bathroom mirror. Or even embedded deeply in our hearts. Yes, I think that would be an excellent place. There it might serve as an oxen prick and keep us from sitting around the Father's table when the fields are ripe to harvest.

And about that rendering according to our works. Now, I'm not saying he who dies with the most converts wins....but something like that.
