Chapter 8

Proverbs 8 (Kevin)

There are a lot of things to discuss when it comes to Proverbs 8. Many people say the chapter proves that Jesus was there in the beginning of creation. Some even say He is the “wisdom” the proverb speaks of. Others focus on the man benefits of wisdom, understanding, prudence and knowledge. All are very note worthy and need to be studied.

One word caught my attention during my study of the text. It gripped me and I hope it never lets go. I hope you have an experience with this tiny little word like I am.

Proverbs 8:1a Does not wisdom CALL?

This word CALL is powerful when we examine what it is saying. It is the Hebrew word “qara” to cry out, to call aloud, to roar, to proclaim, to invite, to implore, to call by name. it is usually addressed to a specific recipient and intended to elicit a specific response. Rarely does it refer to a random outcry. Qara also means to shout, to call out loudly in order to get some one's attention so that contact can be initiated. Sometimes it is a sustained calling.

Can you see and hear your Heavenly Father? He through wisdom (Jesus or not) is calling your name, crying your name out loud with such a sense of urgency. Like when one of your kids call out MOM or Dad when they NEED you so badly. It’s not a generic way. He is saying your name in a way to initiate your response to make contact with you! If God is willing to cry out your name it must be of the utmost of importance to Him.

Meditate on this for several days and ask God to give you ears to hear that outcry of your name so you can make the contact God so desperately desires.
