Chapter 10

Proverbs 10 (Kevin)

It has been said that the word of God is like a precious gem, that when turned, it shows you different facets every time. Believing this I will only briefly look at one facet of Proverbs 10 in the blog but it is important that you read, study and meditate on the whole Proverb to get the full beauty of it.

In Proverbs 10 the facet we will focus on is the effects, results or consequences of our mouth, lips, tongue or words.

Mouth-5
vs. 6 Violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked
vs. 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
vs. 14 the mouth of a fool invites ruin
vs. 31 the mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom
vs. 32 the mouth of the wicked only know what is perverse

Babbling-1
vs. 10 a babbling fool comes to ruin

Lips-5
vs. 13 wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning
vs. 18 he who conceals his hatred has lying lips
vs. 21 the lips of the righteous nourish many
vs. 32 the lips of the righteous know what is fitting

Words-1
vs. 19 when words are many, sin is not absent

Tongue-2
vs. 20 the tongue of the righteous is choice silver
vs. 31 a perverse tongue will be cut out

The main definition of wisdom put in everyday terms is taking knowledge on any aspect of our life experience and using it in a smart way. Considering the amount of times that they have talked about our mouth, babbling, our lips, our words and our tongue just in this chapter, God must want us to learn something.

Good
Fountain of life, wisdom, nourishment, discernment, choice silver

Bad
Violence, ruin, perverseness, lying, sin, our tongue being cut out

You have a choice before you. You can use your words, lips, mouth, tongue for wisdom and life or ruin. It’s your choice. Choose wisely.
