Chapter 23

Proverbs 23 (Jean)

"Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich; restrain yourself! Riches disappear in the blink of an eye; wealth sprouts wings and flies off into the wild blue yonder." Proverbs 23:4-5

With the world system seemingly on a perpetual tilt, our focus should be on spiritual riches and seeking first the kingdom of God. Matt. 6:33. We are secure in the Lord. We have promises that go way beyond this world of physical riches. Look up and keep on looking up. Our Redeemer and Bridegroom wants to find us going about His business when He returns.

I am reminded of a fun little ditty we sang when my kids were young.

Job's Song

There was man in the land of Uz whose name was Job,

A perfect man and an upright man, one who feared God.

Now Job had sons and daughters and servants and gold and sheep and cows and

Donkeys and goats and houses and lands and camels by the thousands.

The devil came on a certain day and he took everything Job had away

Well, Job didn't fuss and he didn't complain. He said,

"Blessed be the Name of the Lord; blessed be the Name of the Lord!"

Oh Lord, I want to be just like your servant, Job,

A perfect man and an upright man, one who fears God.

And if you give me worldly things like gold and sheep and cows and

Donkeys and goats and houses and lands and camels by the thousands,

And if anybody comes on any ol' day and takes everything that you give me away,

I'll never fuss and I'll never complain. I'll say,

"Blessed be the Name of the Lord; blessed be the Name of the Lord!"

If you ask me, I'll sing it for you.

Chapter 22

Proverbs 22 (Kim)

"Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge: for it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; let them be fixed upon your lips, so that your trust may be in the Lord; I have instructed you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things of councils and knowledge that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?" Proverbs 22:17-21

‘I have instructed you today, EVEN YOU.’

Hmmm… guess that means ME!

Why have I been instructed?

So that I can "…know the certainty of the words of truth," that “I” may answer words of truth to those who send to (ask) “me”!

o.k.

So, if I listen and apply my heart to this knowledge, keeping it close in my thoughts and speaking it often I will learn Gods truth and be able to share it.

In learning His truth I will come to know Him better and in knowing Him, begin to trust Him rather than the things of this world or my own imperfect knowledge or sight.

Sounds like a good plan to me... but, what if…?

Nope, not going there! I’ll just trust God and let Him take care of the “what ifs.”
