Chapter 27

Proverbs 27 (Ted)

Living in the Present

Proverbs 27:1 -- "Do not boast aboaut tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."

I'm learning that one of the hardest things to do in life is learning to live in the present. Christ gives us several admonitions in His parables to focus on today, not tomorrow's worries or yesterday's mistakes.

After all, we encounter life one instant at a time -- in the present.

All too often I get caught up in dreaming about all the things I could do for God (in the future). In doing so, I miss His whisper for right now. And when I'm not busy dreaming about the future, I'm often living in fear or regret about bad choices from the past.

Where does that leave me? Well, usually anywhere but the present. If Satan can rob us of our focus on the "right here and now", then he's effectively robbed us of our past and future. After all, life is the sum of our moments.

When we stop and re-focus on God, right now, we find that He's sufficient. The moment with Christ that we're in right now is enough for whatever struggle we're in, and He multiplies whatever joy we find.

So let's start trying to live in the present. I bet we'll be surprised at how soon the old self falls away and how quickly we progress in our walk with God...
