Proverbs 7:4
“Love wisdom like a sister; make insight a beloved member of your family.” NLV
“Talk to Wisdom as to a sister. Treat Insight as your companion.” The Message
“Say to skillful and godly Wisdom, You are my sister, and regard understanding or insight as your intimate friend.” Amplified Bible
“Say to wisdom, ‘My sister Thou [art]. ‘And cry to understanding, ‘Kinswoman!’ Young’s Literal Translation
Merriam-Webster’s dictionary gives these meanings for Wisdom:
(1) ability to discern inner qualities and relationships
(2) a wise attitude, belief, or course of action
And Insight:
(1) the power or act of seeing into a situation
(2) the act of result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively
Ok, so no matter which Bible translation you like to read, this verse comes across loud and clear. Wisdom and Insight are to be treated as family, as our closest friends. How do we, in most cases, treat our family and closest friends? We keep them close by spending time with them. We talk to them. We let them be a part of and have a significant impact in our daily lives. We go to them when we are in trouble or have a need. We count on them.
Sooo, think of Insight and Wisdom in the same way. Keep them close. Seek their counsel always.
