Chapter 28

Proverbs 28 (Susan)

"He who by charging excessive interest and who by unjust efforts to get gain increases his material possession, gathers it for him [to spend] who is kind and generous to the poor." Proverbs 28:8a

I chose verse 8 from this chapter because it gives promise to future generations. We can see the inheritance of the righteous and the wicked in Proverbs and in various scripture throughout the Bible.

"Though he heaps up silver like dust and piles up clothing like clay, He may prepare it, but the just will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver." Job 27:16-17

"A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children's children and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up." Proverbs 13:22 AMP

"A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just." KJV

"For to the person who pleases Him God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and heaping up, that he may give to one who pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after the wind and a feeding on it." Ecclesiastes 2:26

In other words they will not be spending their wealth, someone else will; the wicked will be gathering and heaping in vain, wanting more and more and never being satisfied. The law of sowing and reaping would mean give it away and be generous; you can’t take it with you where ever you go.

Paul says in Philippians 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content.” But if we are one of those who God has entrusted with great riches, remember it’s not just for you; it’s for the kingdom. Remember that when you play the lottery.

Being kind and generous to the poor, expecting nothing in return, like for Carol’s kids who can never repay you. These are the real riches of heaven and earth. It only costs about eight to ten dollars for a simple blanket, gloves and hats - just a couple of dollars and joy, it’s priceless. You can’t buy joy; you have to give of yourself to get it. You then are richer by far. You know the old saying, Life is like a wheel - what goes around comes around and you will get yours, good or bad. Whatsoever a man sows that also shall he reap.

“Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

If you give nothing you get nothing, if you give pennies you only get pennies, but if you give much you will have an inheritance to pass to your children’s children, whether it be values, moral stability, goodness, decency, a Christ like example or wickedness. What will you pass to your children? What do you want returned to you?
