Proverbs 22 (Jean)
Several verses here deal with speaking and the result of that speech.
v. 1 A good name (Call me Jean; it means 'God is gracious') is more desirable than riches.
v. 11 Lover of a pure heart and whose speech is gracious...kind words win favor.
v. 12 The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
v. 13 Lazy...giving frivolous excuses.
v. 14 Flattering words ensnare the undiscerning
v. 18 Keeping wisdom ready in your heart and on your lips.
v. 21 Learning true and reliable words to give sound answers in season.
Words. Words of encouragement and words of grace spoken bring God's kingdom here on earth. Gracious speech gets a lot of mileage. It brings out the best in those who may need a little feedback in order to attempt great exploits for the kingdom. Some may be unsure of an idea or heart-felt desire that God is developing in them. Your encouraging word may be the confirmation they need to believe and step out in faith. A kind greeting along with a nice smile will always be welcomed.
Unsure if you are able to participate in what God is doing? You can; it's simple. Speaking encouraging, gracious, gentle and kind words is a good place to start. Absolutely everyone can do this. Anyone!
"So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover's life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God." Phil 1:9-11 (The Message)
